-Jason J. Marchi, Valley Courier Correspondent

On June 13 at 7:18 p.m. Trooper Gosselin of Troop F State Police investigated the scene of a two-vehicle accident in which Raymond Hudson, Jr., 18, of 16 Deep Hollow Road was fatally injured.

According to police, Hudson was traveling eastbound on Wig Hill Road in a 1990 Nissan 240SX when he struck the left rear of a 2000 Dodge Caravan operated by a 33-year-old woman of Turkey Hill Road who was headed westbound.

The operator of the Caravan had two female passengers onboard, one age 9. No one in the Caravan was injured, according to police. Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Gosselin's written report stated that Hudson's vehicle "was not able to regain control and struck a series of large trees off the traveled portion of the road." Hudson's vehicle was "heavily damaged," according to the report.

According the Connecticut Department of Transportation there were 294 vehicle fatalities in Connecticut in 2004, 15 of which (or 3.5%) were among 18-year-old drivers. Among the 16-to19-year-old age group there were 50 driver fatalities in 2004, and this age group accounted for almost 12 percent of all driver fatalities in Connecticut in 2004, the most recent year in which statistics are available.
