Westbrook – After a lengthy investigation by State Police, two men were arrested who are believed to be responsible for committing an armed robbery of the Westbrook Extra Mobil Mart at 1 a.m. on July 31.

According to Detective James McGlynn of the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad at Troop F, during the robbery incident back in July, a man wearing a stocking mask and armed with a handgun entered the Extra Mobil Mart convenience store at 130 Boston Post Road and demanded money from the store clerk. A second man waited in a vehicle in the store parking lot. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money the armed robber left the store and fled in the waiting vehicle.

Once investigators discovered that two men suspected of similar robberies during the week of July 31 were each incarcerated at the McDougal/Walker Correction Center in Suffield, and the Hartford Connectional Center, warrants were issued for their arrests by the Middletown Superior Court.

On November 7, State Police arrested and charged 29-year-old Anthony Owens of 2 Brown Street, Wallingford, with robbery in the first degree, larceny in the second degree, and conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree. Twenty-three year-old William Wambolt of 87 North Whittlesey Street, Wallingford was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree, and accessory to robbery in the first degree.

The two men are suspected in robberies to convenience stores during the week of July 31 within the towns of Cromwell, Rocky Hill, Glastonbury, and East Granby.
