CRYSTALLINE JEWEL

Mother catches snowflakes

On cold black velvet.

Suspended there, she says of one:

"See how bright! How pretty!"

Her face alight like a star.

And there, shimmering,

A white heart in a great black void,

A small crystalline jewel

With perfect form and cool complexion

Winks up at us,

Until it melts into the night

And our smiles are gone.
